Reviews for Making an Effort

I just reread this story. It is just so good. Any chance you'll find time to continue?

Author's Response: Thank you! I have some ideas, though these days I am using my scarce free time to write original fiction (and try to get published).

I love this chapter. The confrontation in the hospital room was perfect. I have a tendency to make Remus less confrontational, but this worked out so well. :)...The scene with the Dark Lord was great. It was nice and chilling as Severus is told how cloely he's watched and what a thin line he's walking... I really enjoyed the final scene. I'm so glad that you have helped Severus. I hate seeing him in pain. Great bit with Blaise and the Slytherin common room, BTW. I like how he's the one responsible for Mad-Eye's disfigured face. :) Using threats as sweet-talk LOL Very Severus, I love it...I love the fact that he is ticklish. It's such a childish weakness for him to have that it's just perfect...Sorry to hear this may be the end of it. It does make a good ending point, but there is still an opening for more. I'm glad that you could find the time in your hectic life to write this story and should you find time to write more, I'll be there reading. Thanks for a great story. I never thought I would like a Severus/Tonks fic, but I really did. :)

Author's Response: Canon Remus is less confrontational, though we've never seen him lose his temper. I thought people might think my Dark Lord was too sane and not enough of a slavering psychopath, but I don't think Snape would ever have followed someone that obviously insane. And no-one has expressed any objections thus far. The common room scene was the most time-consuming to write because I figured Severus had most of the term to think about what he was going to say to his Slytherins when he finally got the opportunity. As for Mad-Eye, I have this theory that Severus is uncomfortable with looking him in the eye, thus missing the fake Mad-Eye in Gof, because he's the one who took his real eye. The ticklishness was just impulsive on my part; I kind of added it last minute. I have left a lot of loose ends, though, should I ever want to continue this. Thanks for your reviews!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ok, if it has to be, it has been done well and the title for this chapter is a good one. As much as I hate it, ending it here where Snape knows Tonks's feelings are changing is a good idea. I thought the splinting with the pillow was great! Snape would know about that. (Took me back to my nurisng days on the cadio-thoracic ward.) If and when you change your mind, or if you start a new fic, let me know. I love reading your fics! Have fun in the real world.

Author's Response: My mom is a retired nurse, and she taught me the pillow-splinting trick when I had abdominal surgery. So that bit is a tribute to Muggle nurses everywhere :) After this chapter, I'd have to start writing the breakup, and it would take me a long time (even after I'd done with all the procrastinating). So I thought I'd better make this a provisional last chapter in case I never did it. Thanks for all your reviews!

Meh. I'll miss Snape versus his stupid Slytherins. I'll miss suave Blaise. I'll miss Snape/Tonks. I'll miss everything! I'll even miss you Dark Lord! But I understand... I agree with Verity: if we get the break-up, we'll want to hear more about it and about what will no doubt be a new grudge for Snape. *cough* Of course your take on that would interest me GREATLY, so if you should decide to write it, I'll be there to read it :D. For the time being, I'll admonish myself and say it's never wise to want too much of a good thing...

Author's Response: Well, I'd like to say thanks for all your support, and I will still be around. I plan on reviewing other peoples' fics more consistently. And yes, the break-up would be hard to do. I've had several different ideas on how to do it, but I haven't been able to make up my mind from one day to the next whether it would be him or her to break it off. Until I can figure this one out and find the time to do it justice, I'm going to leave it here. Cheers! --Apothecaria

I will miss this story if you decide to end it here, but this is a very logical place to end the story. As I said before, I like the Snape/Tonks pairing and the only way I would have been unhappy with where you left it, would be if she had gone off with Remus. Just because JKR paired them doesn't mean everybody has to pair them. As long as Severus isn't paired with Hermione I'm happy, I just don't like the little know-it-all. Anyway, I hope the hectic pace of your life eases up soon so you can get back to both your reading and your writing.

Author's Response: I never understood SS/HP either, starting with the age difference. And I will continue to read and review as much as I can. I appreciate your faithful reviews and lengthy comments and vow to start reviewing other people's stories a little more consistently.

Sorry I'm so late! I read this when it first posted but was prevented from reviewing. Now that I've read the chapter again I find that I look forward to re-reading the whole story from beginning to end when it's finished. Your Snape is so excellent - I love reading him. I'm sorry that Sirius has finally had to go, because your Snape vs Sirius exchanges are very entertaining and sharp... And I was delighted to see Phineas Nigellus, and hear him lament the decline of Slytherin House (he does have cause for concern, doesn't he? *sigh*). The picture of Dumbledore at the end is intrigueing. Wildness? Interesting... I can't wait to read the next chapter!

Author's Response: Sorry I'm so late in responding! Some RL events distracted me away from my computer, like an election in my country, and a nasty cold that went through my family. Anyway--I actually delayed killing Sirius because I enjoyed the snark between him and Snape so much. I stretched the previous chapters out more than I had originally planned. The next chapter is proceeding apace and should be up soon (not this week, but maybe next).

I love the idea of Severus thinking the Slytherins have abandoned him as Head of House, Though, it was very Slytherin of them to follow power. LOL I see you addressed that in the next sentence. I do love Draco as the ‘ferretboy’… The meeting with Umbridge from Snape’s POV was great. I like how he’s trying to get expelled from her office. LOL That really made me laugh… I really like how you handle the Patronus communication. It’s one of those things I’ve wondered, but it never occurred to me to make it up myself. LOL… Also, love Severus’ dry remark about Umbridge “Being rendered limb from limb…” LOL I definitely think that many people would agree with that. :)…Thanks for the update, and sorry I missed Chapter 10. I don’t know how I missed it. If it takes 5 months for the next chapter, hopefully I’ll see it because I do enjoy this story.

Author's Response: Draco and Snape were close in the first book. By book 6, things are considerably chillier. I think what happened in book 5 had something to do with it. I wasn't exactly sure how to handle the Patronus communication, and kept it kind of vague. And the next chapter won't take 5 months (I hope).

Nice addition. I like hte insight and as much fun as it was to have Tonks at Hogwarts, I think it will be more fun with her gone as the school year goes on. :) I like how Severus is starting to open up to Tonks.

Author's Response: Yes, it's too bad there isn't much of the school year left. Though I've gotten some mileage out of it in the next chapter.

I like the unfolding of events from cannon from a different point of view! As the cannon books continue, it seems to me that it would be refreshing to see the events unfold from an unbiased or adult view point and not always from Harrys! So Snape has a soft spot for Tonks! Now that is interesting! Give us more!

Author's Response: The only chapter not from Harry's POV is Spinner's End, and I was struck by how different Snape is in that chapter (and I don't think it's because he's really a poyjuiced Dumbledore!)

Wonderful story! I love your Snape, especially his interactions with Sirius. Your humour is terrific! Hope you'll update soon!

Author's Response: I'm not updating as quickly as I'd like, and I admire those folks who do :)
