I really do like this titbit - truly delightful. And as a musician with children who are also musicians....I can easily envision and appreciate this scenario.
:-)
As for your source of inspiration...
You work at WalMart? I believe it is you who deserves the relaxing shower, the fine brandy and classical music....as well as an Order of Merlin 1st Class.

Oof! I know the feeling! I used to work as a waitress in an Italian restaurant where the same CD would be on an endless loop all evening! One night, someone broke in, not only taking money, but the CD player with the CD still in it. Everyone was elated! I can only think that it was an inside job.... |

How cool is it, that a story from 04 can pop up and still be reviewed in 06? This was charming--all the more after your explanation of how it came to be. |

Heh...I know what you mean. I work dept. 25, and the kids drive me crazy playing with those damn CDs.
Anyway, I liked it. The mental picture of McGonagall chewing them out while holding a set of pipes cracks me up. |

I so enjoyed this piece! The utter relaxation spoiled by the unwanted music. It reminded me of my dorm days, before Sony's Walkman. Everyone was pounding on doors, "Turn it down!" However, one person had Pachelbel's "Canon in D Major" and we would pound on the door and yell "Turn it up!" (Of course, the canon wasn't as ubiquitous as it is now....)

My dogs really hate it when I cackle maniacally--it disturbs their sleep! I worked in a retail store once. From Thanksgiving to New Year's we played on 2 hour tape--over and over and over. It still gives me the creeps when I hear It's Baby's First Christmas. Fun story! |

Just needed a quick pick-me-up. Thanks for the laugh. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that bagpipes sound like a dying cat! At first I thought it was Mrs. Norris... Again thanks for the laugh. |

The funny thing is, I do too. And that damned CD rack begins to get to you before you ever go on first break.
Nice little ficlet, BTW. The reference to the dying cat had me laughing out loud, much to the consternation of my sleeping parents. |
